How To Start Your Healing Journey

Healing can be a pain—literally and figuratively. This is why it is not always an appealing option to people. It requires courage, dedication, and the willingness to face our shadows. More often than not, a lot of the healing advice available on the internet disregards the current psychological and emotional stage a person is at. Bombarding people with good vibes only messages is called toxic positivity. While the advice in these messages are valid, it is not relevant nor helpful for people who are starting their healing from the depths of depression, trauma, and PTSD.

Every stage of an individual’s healing and spiritual journey will have teachings resonate in different ways. This detail is often overlooked for many who are only starting their healing process. The following list has some simple ways to start your healing journey:

  1. Honour Your Emotions

    What you feel is valid. All the feelings of anger, sadness, bitterness and frustration are just as valuable as joy, love, and happiness. The reason why the former tends to stay with us longer is usually because of our resistance to truly feel and honour these emotions. It is imperative that we re-learn how to express our negative feelings as well as positive. If we look at babies and young children, they express their feelings of unease instantly. It also passes fairly quickly in comparison to how we are taught to process emotions as adults.

    One simple way to honour our emotions is to write it all down in a journal. This will also allow you to re-evaluate your emotional state later when you have a calmer mind. When you reflect on why you feel certain ways, you can delve deeper and find the root cause to your triggers and reactions. Journals also can take many different forms—it can be a traditional handwritten journal, a notebook in OneNote, a private social media account, or the Notes app in your phone. It’s important to choose something that works for you.

  2. Connect to your Inner Child with Childhood Hobbies

    If you are on your healing journey, you have likely heard about connecting to your inner child for healing. From the sessions I have conducted with clients, many have stated that they are unsure on how to do this.

    Reconnecting with your childhood hobbies helps open the gateway for your inner child to come out and play. This could be anything from playing sport, creating art, playing with animals, or simply watching some of your old favourite shows. It isn’t meant to be complicated. Do these activities purely for the sake of having fun and nothing else. The more you are able to enjoy activities with your inner child, the easier it will become to reach out and connect.

  3. Speak Intentions into Water

    In 2007, Masaru Emoto M.D. released his book The Healing Power of Water, detailing his discoveries of how water is affected when intentions are directed into it. This showcases the power of words and intentions, and is one of the easiest methods to use. Simply speak into your water before drinking by saying (or whispering), “I am healing my emotional wounds.” Do this as much as possible. By setting this intention into the water and consuming it, it will travel around your body and affect every muscle and organ. The more you hydrate with intention, the more you speed up your own healing!

  4. Listen to Healing Music to Sleep

    Did you know that different sound frequencies target different areas of healing? These are known as the solfeggio frequencies. It is recommended that you work up the frequencies for the most effective results. I have a reiki infused 285Hz solfeggio frequency healing audio available in my shop that is available for purchase. You can use the audio at any time of day, and repeat it as necessary. It is one of the easiest and almost effortless way to start your healing.

  5. Purchase a Healing Session

    If you are feeling unsure on which issues to start with your healing journey, or if doing it all on your own feels too overwhelming, calling in a practitioner can be very helpful. There are numerous modalities available, and all are valid. If you are interested in reiki, I offer remote sessions in my store. Reiki is a gentle but effective way to help move energy throughout your spirit body, and The Universal Energy will direct itself to where you need it most.

    Another healing modality that I recommend and have personally found most useful is Emotion and Body Code. I highly recommend Jenny Jury, who is an absolute pleasure to work with. She offers remote sessions, as well as in-person sessions if you are in Adelaide, South Australia.

  6. Guided Meditations

    Meditating can take some time getting used to. However, a guided meditation is a little different. With soothing and calming audio in the background, a guided meditation will have an instructor talk you through with instructions. This is a form of hypnosis and will help you discover parts of your psyche that you normally would have not accessed.

    There is a plethora of free guided meditations available on YouTube, and I recommend Michael Sealey for quality, free audios. However, please do not discredit paid audio tracks simply because there are free options available. Money is a form of energy, and paid tracks are often shorter and more effective. They require an energy exchange to reach the full impact. I will discuss in a later post on why energy exchange is important when seeking spiritual services.

  7. Live Consciously

    Most importantly of all, to embark our journey of healing, we must be conscious of ourselves and the actions we take. Simply put, it is the practice of think before you speak and act. No one is perfect, and we are all entitled to our emotions and reactions. However, we must also be aware and accept that all of our actions will also have a consequence. Are you prepared to accept the consequences (karma) that may result from your actions?

    However, we also need to remember that there is real “wrong” decision. We are allowed to make mistakes, and that is a part of being human. There should never be the expectation to be flawless because that is not the reason why we are here.
